General requirements for naturalization eligibility include:
Being a legal permanent resident of the US for at least 3-5 years
A period of continuous residence and physical presence in the US
Knowledge and understanding of US history, government and civics
Good moral character
The ability to read, write and speak English (certain applicants have different English and civics testing requirements based on their age and length of lawful permanent residence at the time of filing)
